WHAT DOES THE FIRST PEDIATRIC PHYSIOTHERAPY VISIT LOOK LIKE?
During the first visit, we take a thorough history of the pregnancy, birth, and health of the baby. We listen carefully to the parents - they usually have a very well-developed sense of observation of their child. Next, we try to assess the toddler based on observation of the so-called spontaneous motor skills, and when the child has become accustomed to the new place and the therapist, we carry out a physiotherapeutic and neurological examination and explain to the parents what we see. We always try to involve the carers in the therapeutic process, at least by showing and suggesting friendly care, games that are currently most developmental for the toddler. We try to make sure that every visit takes place in a calm and warm atmosphere, respecting the needs of the child and its parents.
WHAT IS PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR CHILDREN?
When working with our smallest patients we use different methods, adapting the way we work to the needs of the child. We work with babies using the NDT Bobath method. The main principles of this method are to work with the whole body of the child, not with individual parts. The aim is to support the child's development by slowing down abnormal reflexes, releasing reflexes that are as close to normal as possible. This is possible thanks to the plasticity of the brain, i.e., the high capacity to learn through external stimuli.
At the Osteopathy Centre we take a holistic approach to our patients (including the youngest). The NDT Bobath therapist often works together with an osteopath or manual therapist in order to be able to help your children even more effectively and quickly.
You are more than welcome!
